Filmed in Calgary, Season 2 of the hit series will be expanded to include eight, half-hour episodes, up two from the six-episode first season which was the most-watched Canadian comedy of the 2018-19 broadcast year. Meanwhile, tensions rise with Jann and her new manager Cale (Elena Juatco), who lines up new music gigs that are outside of Jann’s comfort zone.

But with Cale, a manager cares about a client because they believe in their talent. Schitt’s Creek, which you guest-starred in during its last season, became an international hit after Netflix started streaming it, and it was just announced that Hulu will soon be streaming Jann in the U.S. How excited are you that another great Canadian comedy is going to get a wider audience? EJ: I love him so much. JH: On a scale of one to snake dress, it is an 11! The exception is Keshia Chanté who packs a big punch this season.

“I’m much more friendly, chatty, and outgoing than Cale is,” Juatco says during a phone call from Ottawa, where she’s filming the Hallmark holiday movie The Key to Christmas. Meanwhile, Jann’s rival tracks her down, and she’s pissed. Editor in Chief Bridget Liszewski comes from a long line of TV Junkies who fostered her love of television from a very young age. I channeled her from myself I guess, that power, the laser-focus, the going after it, and the knowing how to get there. We all shared that. It was an absolute honour to be on their very last season, to make it in and to be in such a pivotal episode as well, where my character got to play a hand in the fate of the family. [With Hulu], a wider audience will get to be exposed to Jann and, hopefully, share the laughs. And I remember the table was like, ‘How is Elena not breaking?’ I was just Cale, and I will always be unimpressed with Todd, that will never change.

RIP: Shows Ending in … There’s huge events and things that are frankly, impossible to film right now. They also shared why Jann will get some wins this season and improve as a person, but why they can’t take her all the way to being completely reformed. LG: Jann and I, early on, met with a bunch of people when we were looking for a showrunner.

The rift between Jann and Cale grows when Cale books a music video shoot that's way outside Jann's comfort zone. TTVJ: Since you are already hard at work on Season 3, is there anything you can share with us about how that’s going? When I landed in Toronto, my husband said, ‘You’re not gonna believe what just happened.’ But I was blessed that that was a scheduled flight, that I never got stranded. Now I kind of don’t understand how she is capable of doing what she does. So even in that moment, you see that Cale does see Jann’s talent and understands that. When we filmed the finale, at the Tunie Awards, that was an 18-hour day. JH: That’s the big question of the whole show.

I’ve been very blessed. lang. We try to give people things because we’re aware the show is called JANN. So there is some of it where I’m just Cale and I will not break, but then sometimes you have those days. Honestly, when I got the part, my next thought was, ‘I hope that Jason Blicker got Todd.’ I remember being in Calgary for the first read-through, and I saw him turn the corner, and I was like, ‘I’m so happy it’s you.’ Because in our call-back, there was just this great chemistry we had, and it’s so easy and so fun. I really loved that moment, and also, Cale got a one-on-one concert and Jann sang a line for her.

Viewers were left wondering whether Jann would embark on a tour or stay behind to help her mother Nora (Deborah Grover), who’s showing early signs of memory loss, and sister Max (Zoie Palmer), who was put on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. LG: Yes, it is worse than that! I’m over the moon. I also really loved the one where k.d. I was actually in Los Angeles until March 11. That face when I’m watching her, that was a real face, it was me listening to Jann sing, because in real life, gosh, she’s got a talent. Jann Arden goes on a quest for renewed fame. So even in that moment, you see that Cale does see Jann’s talent and understands that. JH: One of the things we love about Season 2 is that it’s so big.

This season, Jann’s idea of thoughtfulness may be a little over the top, as she sets out to win over her family and ex-girlfriend Cynthia (Sharon Taylor) – all while still attempting to regain her long-lost fame. EJ: There’s definitely a clash between Jann and Cale, and something will happen in the finale. JH: I did not know I was going to get the job.

You kind of see that shift in our relationship, where she asks him for help. And so much of it is fearlessness.
